Navy seizes 440 Kgs Kendu leaves in Negombo

The Navy seized about 440 Kgs of smuggled Kendu leaves and a dinghy during a special operation carried out in Pitipana Lagoon area in Negombo Tuesday (29).

The operation was mounted by SLNS Kelani in the Western Naval Command in the Pitipana Lagoon area on Tuesday. The search operation led to the seizure of about 440 Kgs and 900 g of Kendu leaves in 15 packages in a dinghy which was searched by the Navy on suspicion.

The consignment of Kendu leaves and the dinghy held by the Navy will be handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for further legal action.
