Navy seizes over 1,900 kg of smuggled tendu leaves

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Norochcholai area on December 23, led to the seizure of a lorry loaded with 1,955 kg of smuggled tendu leaves.

The operation was carried out by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command in Norochcholai area in the early hours of December 23. During the search, Naval personnel inspected a suspicious lorry parked at the Norochcholai Economic Centre and found 63 packages of smuggled tendu leaves weighing around 1,955 kg in the vehicle.

The stock of tendu leaves and the lorry taken into the Naval custody were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake, for onward legal action.
