Navy vs Havies – a thrilling game on the cards today at Havelock Park
A closely fought out battle can be expected between two high riding teams Navy Sports Club and Havelock Sports Club when they lock horns in their opening first round SLR ‘A’ Division inter-club league rugby encounter at the Havelock Grounds, Havelock Park today at 6.30pm under lights.
The Havies team are packed with some outstanding players but they should get their act together if they are to pull off a win against the formidable sailors and to achieve that several of their experienced players in the caliber of Skipper Shenal Deelaka, Imesh Madushan, Maleesha Madumevan, Sandesh Jayawickrema, Vimukthi Rahula, Ramesh De Silva, Mithun Hapugoda, Randy Silva and Theekshana Dassanayake will have to give off their best under their head coach veteran Sanath Martis.
Meanwhile the young Navy outfits at present is in team rebuilding stage and are under the watchful eyes of their dedicated and committed head coach former Peterite skipper and Sri Lanka coach Leonard De Silva, who is ably assisted by experienced assistant coach cum former Sri Lanka player Saliya Hadapangoda.
Navy team has in their ranks young Sri Lanka sevens captain and second row forward Adeesha Weerathunga, Lahiru Pavithra, Charith Silva, Gihan Perera, Janith Laksara, Chathura Senevirathne, Mushin Faleel, Lahiru Herath and veteran full back Thilina Weerasinghe. They know to be in the running for honours and they must win this game, hence they will come out with their best fifteen and go out with all guns blazing to topple the Havies side in their own den at Havelock Park.
