Nawagamuwa Devale tills sealed over misuse of funds
Co-Vice President of the Dayaka Sabha of Nawagamuwa Sri Sugathabimbarama Rajamaha Vihara and the Historic Nawagamuwa Pattini Davelaya Chandrasena Palihena said that according to the investigations conducted on the complaints regarding misuse of funds, all the tills of the two shrines have been sealed by the Buddhist Affairs Department.
He says that the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs conducted the sealing on the instructions of the Auditor General.
The action was taken after investigating the repeated complaints received by the Buddhist Affairs Department and the Auditor General that the money received from this shrine had been misused for sometime and that the gold ornaments offered to the temple were being sold without being properly documented in inventories. Recently, a monk of the shrine was also accused of giving Rs.100 million as a loan to a car dealer.
Organization for the Protection of Nawagamuwa also made a written complaint to the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs under Sections 15(1), 15(2), 15(3), 15(4) of the Temporal Ordinance to take action against frauds in this place, Chandrasena Palihena said.
