Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana recognized the invaluable service rendered by Sri Lankan Micro, Small, Medium and Large scale entrepreneurs to improve the country’s economy and said their contribution towards the Lankan economy should be admired by everybody. He said in addition Sri Lankan entrepreneur’s contribution towards the country’s youth population by providing them with employment should also be appreciated. Minister Pathirana made these observations at the Entrepreneur Awards 2023 ceremony- Western Province, conducted by the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) at BMICH in Colombo on Tuesday. Small and Medium Enterprises Development State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera and Sri Lanka’s Japan Embassy Deputy Head Katsuki Kotaro were also present.
The NEDA offered 47 awards to winners in the categories of Industry, manufacturing sector, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Hospitality & Tourism and many other services sectors. The objective of conducting the annual business awards ceremony was to strengthen local SME sector who play a pivotal role to develop the country’s economy which also helps to create new employment opportunities for youth. While highlighting the excellent service rendered by the Sri Lankan SME sector the Minister said all Sri Lankan banks including the People‘s Bank are always ready to provide financial assistance to Sri Lankan present and future entrepreneurs to develop their business enterprises.
The Minister also mentioned that in addition to banks, even State sector institutions such as the Industrial Development Board and the NIBM with its latest technologies are also helping the SME sector. Minister Pathirana thanked those involved in the country’s SME sector for continuously contributing towards our economy even during the last Covid period. He also congratulated the award winners for their excellent achievements and commended the National Chamber of Commerce for its role in supporting and encouraging Sri Lankan business enterprises.
