Fourteen year old grade nine student Nehan Prasanna Kularathne was adjudged as the Best Novice up and coming Boxer the 48-50 Kgs for the year 2023 organized by Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association and held at the Royal College Colombo and by thus he brought immense honour and glory to his school Sri Sunandopananda Vidyalaya Egodauyana Moratuwa.
Nehan Prasanna who hails from Egodauyana Moratuwa was born on 25 th November 2009 and admitted to his present school in the year 2015 and from grade one to five he did not take part in any sports at school but his Parents Sukumala Prasantha and Ramya Nishanthi realizing his interest is for Boxing handed over their son to the School Master in Charge of Boxing Aluthwewe Hemaloka Thero and he came under the School Coach Janaka Indunil.
His first attempt was L.V.Jayaweera Boxing Championship at Kandy taking part in the 37 to 39 Kgs weight he won a Bronze Medal and in the same year ‘ participating for T.B.Jayah tournament in the same weight grabbed a Silver Medal and in Sri Lanka Schools Boxing tournament at Ratnapura participating for the 46-49 Kgs he won a Gold Medal and finally participating for the all island inter school Boxing Meet held at Royal College Colombo under the 48-50 Kgs weight he won a Gold Medal and he was adjudged as the All Island up and coming Best Novice Boxer and at present he is selected to participated for the Asian Youth Boxing Championship to be held at Asthana city Katakisthan and which will be held from October 21 to November 4.
