New act to provide solutions to problems of Adivasi people – Justice Minister

A special committee headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has been appointed on the advice of the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, PC, with the aim of providing permanent solutions to the problems of the Adivasi (indigenous) people in Sri Lanka.

The committee has prepared a report after discussing with the relevant parties about the problems faced by the Adivasi people, and a special discussion on the recommendations and proposals of the report was held yesterday (11) morning at the Parliament Complex under the chairmanship of the Minister of Justice.

“There is no result in providing temporary solutions to the problems of the Adivasi people in this country. Permanent solutions should be provided. Accordingly, a new bill must be prepared to provide solutions to the existing problems of the indigenous people”, said the Justice Minister
