Founder of the New Alliance, Parliamentarian and former State Minister Nimal Lanza speaking at the second rally of the New Alliance at Hyde Park on Saturday (24), said that both the JVP and the SJB do not possess effective plans to steer the country’s economy in the right direction.

He said that Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not utter a single word during his Indian tour other than pose for photographs with Indian dignitaries.

“Dissanayake did not utter a word during the tour, even though social media tried to inculcate the idea in the minds of people that he has the support of the international community.

He said that JVP was against the signing of the Indo-Lanka Peace Accord, ETCA, and Sampur Agreement. “The country witnessed an era in which citizens were brutally killed when they brought goods from India”, he said.

Lanza further added that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is not exempt from this trend, as they too aim to seize power through deceitful pledges.

“The leader of SJB has a habit of making promises solely to gain power, regardless of the means. He lacks a practical plan to steer the country’s economy in the right direction, he said.

Lanza vowed that the broadest political alliance ever in the country will be formed in March aiming at changing the course of the country.

Lanza, urged the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya members to join hands with the New Alliance which is prepared to introduce a programme of work to get the country out of this crisis.

“Our party is committed to presenting a detailed programme for the country’s development instead of resorting to making empty promises during election time.

“We aim to educate the people about the real issues facing the nation, rather than leading them into a world of illusions”, he said.

He added that all successive governments of the country were either compelled to obtain loans or print money to fulfil the promises granted to the people at the election.  “This process led to the collapse of the country. The main objective of the New Alliance is to educate the real situation in the country and put forward a viable programme of work, aimed at getting the country out of this quagmire”, he said.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha meanwhile emphasised the importance of making informed decisions during this critical period. He was of the view that making misguided choices could greatly hinder the nation’s advancement.

Minister Premajayantha stated that the resurgence of unpatriotic elements in the country was a result of the economic downturn.

Speaking at the second rally of the New Alliance at Hyde Park grounds on Saturday (24), the Education Minister stressed that building a political force does not require spending years.

The Education Minister said that more than 50 MPs who have spotless reputations are ready to join the next rally of the New Alliance.

He reminisced about the period when government institutions would be closed by the simple act of sending a chit to them. The Minister said that 12,000 youths were killed in the 1972 insurrection and Sri Jayawardenepura and Kelaniya universities became torture chambers. Trade Minister Nalin Fernando said that the country is progressing on the right track.  “Not a single leader from the JVP nor SJB came forward to accept the challenge of steering the country in the right direction”, he said

Fernando said that the many problems in the country will end within the next few months.  “We are prepared to build the country.

Meanwhile, Colombo District organiser of the New Alliance, Sugeeswara Bandara stated that the JVP lacks the moral right to organise a Convention of Buddhist Monks, due to their implication in the deaths of 24 Buddhist monks.

He stressed that the Party has not addressed the violent acts committed during the ‘88-’90 period, nor issued a public apology for their role in those killings.

Speaking at the second public rally of the New Alliance at Hyde Park on Saturday (24), Bandara recollected how his father, who was a Magistrate, was brutally killed by the ruthless JVP members, when he, Bandara, was just four years.

He said that his father was a member of the Communist Party, and that he was one of the many families who had lost a loved one due to the actions of the JVP.

“I ask JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake whether they are ready to tell the world about their involvement in this killing spree.”

He added that the Country witnessed terrorism unleashed by the JVP in 2022.

They were prepared to surround the Parliament building. Nevertheless, their efforts to bring the Legislature under their control and undermine the foundation of sovereignty were effectively thwarted.

He said that they are misleading the members of the Maha Sangha.

“A programme of work will be presented to the country through a broader alliance which has no affiliation to any political Party, and will play a pivotal role in bringing reforms to vital sectors in the country.”
