New MCA Cricket Academy opened

The opening ceremony of the MCA cricket Academy was held on Wednesday at MCA premises. MCA President Nalin Wickramasinghe opened the indoor nets by bowling to immediate Past President of MCA Rohana Dissanayake at the indoor nets in the presence of SLC top officials and past President of MCA Chrishantha Obeyeseksra who was the man behind the MCA Academy in 2002.

The past MCA Presidents Mahesh Wijewardena, Niran Mahawatte, Neil Perera, Ashley Ratnayake, Roshan Iddamalgoda and present MCA Secretary Shirosha Gunstilleka,ice President Mahesh de Alwis and Exco Committee of MCA were among the invitees at this Academy opening ceremony.

MCA President Nalin Wickramasinghe addressingt this opening ceremony said when Chrishantha Obeyeseksra was the MCA President he started this Academy with a few young players but today it has lot of young boys as well as young girls Academy started in 2002 under head coach Sarath Perera and there were several junior tournaments conducted by MCA while good supporting staff including former Sri Lanka women’s skipper Shashikala Siriwardena and her husband Namal Seneviratne the former head coach recently resigned to go overseas and women’s team wicket keeper Prasadini Weerakkody gave good service to young cricketers.

Today under my administrative committee we plan to reconstruct this Academy with modern facilities.with support of SLC. I wanted to create a moderate Cricket Academy and another facility Video Technology and gave a proposal to Sri Lanka Cricket and they agreed to support us during this hard period and this is good news for youngsters.

Nalin Wickramasinghe the President of MCA had a dream to make floodlight net practice training which already commenced near the ground and now modern MCA Academy and next December there will be international Cricket Academy tournament hosted by Sri Lanka while 26 Academy’s from countries like UAE, UK, USA, Zimbabwe, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore hope to take part and MCA Academy players also once again hope to take part in this tournament said MCA President Nalin Wickramasinghe.
