New MPs be exemplary in behaviour, unlike in the past – Mahanayaka Thera

The Mahanayaka Thera of the Malwatta Chapter Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayaka Thera said that the people were not impressed and happy with the behaviour of the MPs in Parliament in the past and there is a belief that the current Parliament with many young Parliamentarians will be an exemplary one.

The Mahanayaka Thera said that the behaviour of the people’s representatives in Parliament had fallen to such a low level in the past that even the Speaker was scolded and harassed.

“When people see the indecent behaviour of some Parliamentarians in certain foreign countries today, they raise doubts whether they have learned it from our Parliamentarians,” he said.

The Mahanayaka Thera noted the above when newly appointed Speaker Dr. Ashoka Ranwala called on him at the Malwathu Maha Viharaya in Kandy and sought his blessings.

The Thera also said that people gave power to the current Government with a lot of expectations and the country is in a state of crisis and all groups irrespective of party lines should work together to fulfil the people’s expectations.
