Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said a New Service Minute has been introduced to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) for the first time in history, ending the era of politically motivated recruitment, appointments and promotions.
The Minister was speaking at an induction programme yesterday at Temple Trees under the approved recruitment and promotion procedure of Sri Lanka Transport Board staff.

He also said that it was a historic day which ends the era of politically motivated recruitment, appointments and promotions at the Sri Lanka Transport Board and which transforms the SLTB into an entity with a permanent system based on merit for recruitment, appointments and promotions.
The Minister further said, “Previously, when the government changes, after the elections, the people of the winning party who go into the depot first, will unseat officials from the losing party and take over those positions. This will be repeated after the next election as well. People who deserve to be promoted will not get their rightful positions. There is no opportunity for new and talented people to come in. Gamini Lokuge and Dilum Amunugama made great efforts to correct this situation in the past.”
