New SL Embassy to be opened in Romania
Romania has reiterated its support to Sri Lanka in the opening of a new Embassy in Bucharest, its capital, and its commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Foreign Minister President’s Counsel Ali Sabry met with the Foreign Minister of Romania Luminita Odobescu on Monday (18), for an official discussion on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) currently being held in New York, at which the Romanian Foreign Minister reassured its support to Sri Lanka.
At present, Sri Lanka is represented through a Consulate in Bucharest and an embassy in Warsaw, Poland, in its diplomatic relations with Romania.
Romania is also the most favourable and preferred employment destination for Sri Lankans since 2016 and the present, the Sri Lankan workforce in the apparel, construction, hospitality and agriculture sectors is assessed to be more than 32,000. Romania also supported in obtaining the GSP Plus duty concession extension for Sri Lankan exports this year (2023) and is a close ally of Sri Lanka.
