New SLAVF Commandant assumes duties
Major General B.K.G.M.L Rodrigo assumed duties as the 57th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on September 18, at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.
On his arrival, the newly appointed Commandant was received by the Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF. After reviewing the Guard Turnout, the Commandant saluted the fallen war heroes at the memorial of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV before reviewing the Guard of Honour in honour of the Commandant by the troops of the Sri Lanka National Guard.
Amidst religious blessings, Major General Rodrigo RSP psc IG placed his signature on an official document, symbolising the formal acceptance of the office on his new appointment.
Afterwards, Commandant planted a sapling in the camp premises. During his speech, the Commandant emphasised the crucial role the Volunteer Force has played in the nation’s history, particularly in defending its sovereignty and contributing to post-war efforts.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present.
