Newly appointed Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe assumed duties yesterday at the Sports Ministry. The MP from the Polonnaruwa district Roshan Ranasinghe is Sri Lanka’s 20th Sports Minister. He was also appointed as Irrigation and Youth Affairs Minister. In his speech after assuming duties at the Sports Ministry he said, at this hard time the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave me this responsibility to take over three ministries including the Sports. We all knew this is a very difficult period as all citizens including youths and sportsmen are suffering lot of difficulties.
“We have to start our duties as soon as possible and after the new Secretary will appoint shortly we will start our duties to clear these issues. Especially Commonwealth Games, World Athletic Championship as well as several junior international events are scheduled to be held in this year and will be very busy time for the athletes”. (D.R)
