New Unit to Identify Smoke-Emitting Vehicles

0 0

The Department of Motor Traffic’s Vehicle Emission Testing Programme is establishing a special photographic unit to identify vehicles emitting excessive smoke.

The unit will discreetly monitor vehicles on public roads, with officers deployed at strategic locations in major cities across the island to photograph vehicles with excessive emissions.

Based on the photographic evidence, maintenance orders will be issued to the relevant vehicle owners on the same day.

Owners receiving such orders must repair their vehicles and present them for inspection at the Vehicle Emission Testing Centre in Werahera by the specified deadline.

Vehicles whose owners fail to comply with the orders will be blacklisted in the Department of Motor Traffic’s database.

According to the Vehicle Emission Testing Programme, blacklisted vehicles will face significant restrictions when obtaining revenue licences or transferring ownership. (Newswire)
