New Young pulled off another sensational 3-1 win against Ratnam in the inter-club soccer tournament played for the ‘Super League’ Championship at Race Course grounds, yesterday.

A superb second-half rally by the Wennappuwa lads, where they scored two goals, enabled them to add another win to their tally. This was their second win of the tournament.

Even though Ratnam looked threatening at times, they failed to improvise on the opportunities that came their way, which resulted in their having to suffer another defeat.

They managed to level the score just before the short whistle through Danso Enoch after New Young had opened the scoring through a 30-meter left-footed kick by Tharindu Dhanushka.

After the turnaround, the winners dominated play. Their strikers made teasing moves and bisected the rival defence, but were unlucky to find the back of the net. Nevertheless, they booted two goals in quick succession in the 80th and 82nd minutes of play, the goal-scorers being Lakshan Dhananjaya and Nikila Pakhan Fernando, who sealed a comfortable win.

The boys from Kalutara continued from where they stopped last week when they edged out another top-ranked team, the Up County Lions 2-1. With this win, they maintained their winning streak with another superb victory.

It all happened in the second half after the first half ended with a 1-0 scoreline at the breather. Arepade Jerry Ombembe booted the first goal, while Shenal Sandesh Pingho scored the remaining two goals for the winners.
