Nilaweera advances into ITF second round

Sri Lanka’s Chathurya Nilaweera made a promising start to the ITF Junior Week-2 Tennis Tournament, which commenced at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.

Nilaweera made a great start to his campaign as he outplayed Dhanush Varma of India in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to qualify for the second round of the Boys’ Singles tournament.

However, Sri Lanka’s other representatives in this tournament failed to make an impact with Vichintha Nilaweera, Methwan Wijemanne, Abdul Bashit Cader, Thilina Dissanayake and Zahid Zihar all losing their first-round matches.
