20 year old Sachira Nilushanka Basnayake, a student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy was admitted to School in 2007 from Grade one onwards and at present he is in the Grade Thirteen class in the Bio stream. He started Athletics in Grade Two under the coaching of Chandana Abeyratne in 2008 and in 2009 at the Annual Sports Meet of the School he secured the first place at the 50 metre race.

In 2011 he was selected as the House Captain of the Parakrama House and from 2012 to 2015 he became the Track champion winning the 80 & 100 metre races and in the District meet he was first in 80 & 100 metre and in 2013 in the same meet at the Zonal Athletic Meet his Relay team which consisted of Anupama,Maneesha,Chamath and Sachira became second at the 4 x 100 Relay event and Trinity College secured the first place and at the Provincial Meet at the same relay they became first with a Meet record of 44.9 secds. He became first in the District level 100 & 200 metre races in the under fourteen age category. In the year 2014 at the annual Sports Meet he became the Track Champ when he won the 100 and 200 metre races and at the district Level Meet he became first in 100 metres. At the Relay Carnival of the School in 2014 his relay team became third at the 4 x 200 Relay with a timing of 1 M.46.77 secds. and Royal College became first and Maris Stella second. In the same year at the Sir John Tarbet meet he became second in the 100 metre race held at Embilipitiya Grounds in the Under 15 age category. In 2015 his team Won the 4 x 400 metre Relay at the Provincial Athletic Meet and Sachira became the ‘Best Athlete’ and in 2016 too he became first in the 200 metre with a timing of 24.4 secds. with a Meet Record in the Junior Provincial Athletic Championship running on a grass track. In 2017 in the Under 18 age category at the

Annual Sports Meet he secured the first place in the 200 metre race and at the Olcott Relay event in the 4 x 200 metre his team became third with a timing of 1 m.37.4 secs.

In 2019 at the Relay Championship held at Badulla they became third at the 4×100 metre race and at the All Island Relay event at the 4×100 metre they became first and the team received the ‘Dagoba’ at the School awards ceremony.

While doing Athletics he started the game of ‘Boxing’ under the coaching of Rukman Wekadapola in the 45 to 52 Kg. Weight category at the Annual School Boxing meet in the year 2019 and his intention is to continue Boxing till he is well trained. He was appointed as the Vice President of the Science society as he is a bright student in School and his intention is to become a Doctor in Profession in future and to continue Athletics and Boxing till he becomes an International Sportsman.
