She started her athletic career from Junior level under the coaching of Chandana Abeyratne, Athletic Coach of the School and her first tournament was the All Island School Games, held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo and she was placed Second at the Under 12 Girls Athletic championship in the 50 metre Race.
Nimeshi was in the School Under 12 Relay team with Sandali Liyanage,Akeesha Herath, Minduli Wijekoon and Ishini Bandara and they became second in the Under 12 – 4 x 50 Relay event and the winners were the team of Thanamalvila Maha Vidyalaya. At the Sir John Tarbet meet Nimeshi became first in the Under 12 – 100 Metre race and at the All Island Relay Championship which was held in 2019, in the 4 x 50 Relay, the team secured the first place which was held at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Nimeshi secured the first place at the 60 metre race and again at the 100 metre race she was placed first with a new Meet record of 14.6 seconds at her age group held at Bogambara Stadium, Kandy.
After this meet she was adjudged the Best Athlete and at present as she is unable to attend school she is continuing her Athletic ability by practicing at a playground near her house and her main intention is to improve her skills further in school as soon as the present situation in the country is back to normal.
Nimeshi’s future ambition is to do higher studies while joining many athletic competitions to be an outstanding athlete and bring fame to the school as well as the country and she is thankful to the Athletic Coach, Chandana Abeyratne, Principal of GHS, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera and Prefect of Games, Priyani Dissanayake for the encouragement received to become talented athletes.
