Nine arrested for forcing themselves into Central Bank
The Fort Police said that they have arrested nine persons including a woman who forced their way into the Central Bank by threatening the officials working there yesterday (8). Police said that among the arrested people were the Local Business Protection Council members, Small and Medium Enterprises Association’s attorney Asanka Nuwan Pothupitiya and several other civil organisations members including Leasing and Loan Payer’s Association members.
In view of the current economic crisis, the affected people groups and their leaders have commenced a protest campaign near the lobby of the Central Bank. At that time, Police intervened to remove them from the place and in retaliation they tried to break into the Central bank, where the police officers present at the place arrested the group.
