Nishan Madushka reaches 1000-run milestone
Ragama CC wicket-keeper/batsman Nishan Madushka scored 70 in the second innings to reach the 1000 runs milestone from six matches, however, Kandy Customs CC ended day 3 with a 67-run upset over Ragama CC in their Major Clubs Three-day cricket tournament fixture played at Thurstan grounds yesterday.
Kandy Customs CC made 321 in their first innings while Ragama CC were bundled out for 92. Nishan Madushka scored 30, but that was the highest for his team.
Kandy Customs CC were unable to make a good score in the second innings while they were bowled out for 131. But they set Ragama an improbable target of 361 runs.
Madushka has scored 1025 runs in six matches easily becoming the most successful batsman in the tournament. Opener Dinesh Thimodya who came from England after a successful League tournament played a fluent knock but effort of 80 but his fluent knock was not enough to achieve the victory.
Meanwhile, Police SC beat Colts CC at Police Park while Tamil Union notched up a 5-wicket win over Negombo CC at P. Sara Oval grounds. NCC beat Navy SC by 10 wickets at Welisara while Lankans CC made an easy first innings and 86-run win over BRC at Panadura.Chilaw Marians hit this week’s highest team total of 552 while Bloomfield made a good reply with 374 for 4 wickets at close. Skipper Madawa Warnapura (123) and Lahiru Madushanka (132) played two maiden knocks and also added an unbroken 215-run fifth-wicket stand.
