NMCRP calls for deposit refunds for Laugfs gas cylinders

National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NMCRP) in a letter addressed to Minister of Trade and Cooperative Affairs Dr Bandula Gunawardena says that if Laugfs Gas Company is not selling Gas to refund the money taken for domestic gas cylinders from Customers.

“Gas consumers in this country have deposited to the Laugfs Gas Company and obtained domestic gas cylinders. However, recently, the company announced that it will not be issuing gas to the market. Nevertheless, there is no mention of the consumers who have placed deposits with them and have been purchasing domestic gas cylinders,” NMCRP Chairman, Ranjith Vithanage said.

“Much injustice has been done to Laugfs gas consumers in the country due to this action of the company. If that company is no longer selling gas, we respectfully request you to inform the company that they should ask consumers to hand over the gas cylinders and return the deposits that have been paid.”

“We, humbly inform you that domestic gas users are unable to pay another deposit during these difficult times and obtain a gas cylinder from another company.”

NMCRP also points out that exchanging a yellow coloured gas cylinder of the Laugfs Gas Company when buying a blue colour domestic gas cylinder from another company causes practical as well as legal problems.
