“No IMF disbursements if international debt is not restructured”
Member of Parliament and SJB National Organizer Tissa Attanayake said that there is no agreement yet on the restructuring of the international debt and without such an agreement, the IMF cannot proceed with the disbursement of remaining tranches.
The MP stated this while speaking at a press conference held yesterday (18) at the Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo.
The MP said that Sri Lanka has only completed 28 to 30 percent of the conditions presented by the International Monetary Fund and there is still no agreement on the first condition, the restructuring of the international debt, and without that agreement, it is not possible to proceed to the disbursement of second and third installments of the IMF loan.
He said that an agreement should be reached immediately and the payment of the debt should start from September 27 and if the debt is not paid, the country will be isolated.
He said that the situation of the country is turning very bad and the country cannot move forward in this manner.
