No plan to re-appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as PM – SLPP Gen. Sec.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam MP yesterday said that certain news reports, which claim there is a plan to re-appoint former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister, were completely baseless.

“A baseless news is being spread that there is a plan to bring in Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister and due to this heavy security is in place in Colombo. There is no such plan at all. Some politically bankrupt people are spreading such false news to cover up their failures” Kariyawasam said addressing journalists in Colombo.

He further said that if Mahinda Rajapaksa is to be brought in as the Prime Minister, then he would be brought in with the blessings of the people.

“We say very clearly that Mahinda Rajapaksa is the greatest leader that emerged in the country since independence. Also, Mahinda Rajapaksa is the leader who ended a 30-year war which four presidents could not end. In his own words, Mahinda Rajapaksa is not afraid to attain power or relinquish power for the greater good of the people. We will never bring such a leader to a powerful position in this country secretly while placing heavy security. If Mahinda Rajapaksa is to be brought in for such a position it will be only done with the blessings of the people,” Kariyawasam added.
