No relief for farmers in Budget – NPP
Budget 2022 does not address the price hike in many essential food items and other goods, National People’s Power leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said. It also provides no compensation for farmers who would incur losses due to the ban on chemical fertilizer, Dissanayake said.
MP Dissanayake also noted, “The most challenging issue faced by the people is the increase in the prices of essential food and other items. This Budget has totally failed to provide any solution to this issue. This budget shows that the government does not have any solution to this issue.”
“The government was saying that they are going to compensate the farmers who are incurring losses due to government’s decision to impose a ban on the use of chemical fertilizers. This budget does not mention any such thing about compensating the farmers.
The Finance Minister noted during his speech that the government will not present any more supplementary estimates. This solidifies the fact that the government is not planning to provide any relief to the farmers who would be suffering losses to the fertilizer ban,” MP Dissanayake pointed out.
