NOC will focus on athletes to win medals at Olympics, says Suresh

“We have already planned for the next eight years and always work hard for the benefit of athletes said National Olympic Committee President Suresh Subaramaniam who retained his post for the second time at the election last Tuesday. We want to focus on winning medals at Olympic Games . Most of the Sri Lankan athletes qualified for the Olympics on a wild card system and we want to change this system and make a new chapter for Sri Lanka athletes to focus on 2028 Olympics said NOC chief after winning the election with a comfortable majority.
We don’t want to blame any person and point fingers at any person . We like to work hard more than talking . We were elected to work for athletes and that is our responsibility . The election result proved our success of work during the last term and that’s why we received majority votes to win once again. We were confident before the election and majority was always with us.
“The first time when I came nobody knew me. The second was when I got going everybody knew what I had done for sports and what I was doing for sports. For the first time in the history of the NOCSL we made a Rs. 19 million profit in 2020. it will be more than that figure in 2021.” This victory at the elections was due to honesty, hard work and unselfishness and we will continue our work with more confidence, added NOC chief .
Meanwhile NOC Secretary Maxwell de Silva said when the election gets closer some people are keen to talk on transparency of NOC but the election results proved our success and this time we had a bigger majority than last time .Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation President Kanchana Jayaratne was elected as Vice President and he is the only official from the losing side in the new administration.
