Non-payment of salaries forces employees to steal
Having become angry with the management of a garment factory for non-payment of salaries for over two months, some employees had broken into the factory and stolen readymade clothing to the value of around Rs. 300,000.
It is reported that six machine operators have been taken into custody by Mahawela Police on account of this theft.
This theft is alleged to have taken place August 23 and the suspected employees were taken into custody on Saturday (26), Mahawela Police said.
In the investigations that had followed, it has been revealed that these six employees have been suspected to have committed the theft, police said. This garment factory is said to be located in Kaudupellella, in the Matale district.
Also, it is said that this factory has been there for several years and had a staff strength of 40, police said.
The Police said that the suspected employees taken into custody are aged 17, 18, 20, 23 45 and 54.
