Norwegian who defrauded friend for Rs.3 Mn arrested at BIA

A Norwegian national preparing to leave the country after defrauding a Sri Lankan businessman of Rs.3 million by stating that he would be given business shares in an English company, was prevented from leaving by Immigration officials at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport on Thursday (21). He was handed over to the Katunayake Airport Police.

A senior police officer said the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau had received a complaint against this 42-year-old Norwegian national and accordingly steps had been taken to impose a foreign travel ban against him. The Norwegian’s travel abroad had been prevented according to the court’s decision, the official said. After the airport Police officers handed over this Norwegian to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau, he was produced in court.

The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau said that he was released on bail due to the fact that he took steps, to give back Rs.500,000 of the amount he had defrauded. The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau said that this Norwegian had been defrauded by his friend.
