Dissanayake said that the last General election was put off when the number of COVID positive cases a day was only 100 and the number of deaths was only two or three.
“Don’t we have to examine the brain of those who are demanding an election when the country is recording thousands of positive cases daily with a high death toll?” he queried.
The JVP leader said that pressure should be exerted on the government with an intention of minimizing the damage at this hour. We have nothing to say who are trying to obtain petty advantage by using the present situation of the country, he said.
The JVP leader said the government on the other hand is in the process of selling national assets for a song while people are battered by the pandemic.“This government came into power with a promise of protecting national assets. A public opinion has been created against the Maithri – Ranil government for selling national assets and the present government came into power by using this public opinion in their favour, he said.
