The NPP and JVP leader Anura Dissanayake yesterday emphasized that if two people who are not engaged in a power struggle to secure their political aspirations comes forward as the President and Prime Minister, he will refrain from contesting for the Presidency.
He stated this during a discussion with representatives of those engaged in the Aragalaya (struggle) yesterday. The JVP leader said if an All-Party Government can be formed, his Party’s position was that establishing a Council with the participation of the Aragalaya representatives to supervise its affairs or mediate in decision making will be suitable.
MP Vijitha Herath earlier announced that JVP and NPP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, will run for the post of President earlier addressing a press conference Saturday in Colombo. He said that the Party will nominate its leader for the office of President slated to be selected at an election in Parliament on July 20.
Herath said the Party is ready to build the country under its leader Anura Dissanayake on a common programme with an All-Party Cabinet of an All-Party Government.
