NPP secures five of seven seats in Hambantota
The Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP) has succeeded in winning five of the seven seats in the Hambantota District at the 2024 Parliamentary Election.
Accordingly, Nihal Galappaththi who contested from the NPP has become the candidate with the most number of preferential votes polling 125,983. Athula Welendagoda has obtained 73,198 votes, Saliya Sandaruwan 65,969, Aravinda Senerath 48,807, and Prabha Ruwan 42,249.
Dilip Wedaarachchi who contested representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has obtained 23,514 votes and will be entering Parliament while, D. V. Chanaka who contested from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has also been selected to enter Parliament obtaining 16,546 votes. It is of significance that the group including former Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, who contested under the Gas Cylinder symbol did not enter Parliament.
