The 33rd National Youth Sports Festival (NYSF) 2021 organised by Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and Sri Lanka Youth Social Federation will be held at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo from December 19 to 22.
Over 3,000 athletes will compete in the event while the championship will be held under two categories as under and above 20 age groups for both men and women. An overall winner will receive Rs. 150,000 with a champion trophy while runner-up and third place will be awarded Rs. 100,000 with a trophy and Rs. 75,000 respectively.
The long jump champion of 2019 girls’ under 20 age group category S.M. Henderson from Gampaha District (with a distance of 5.70 meter), long jump champion of boys under 20 with a distance of 7.38 meter Y.C.M Yodhasinghe from Kegalle District and the best athlete in high jump event (with a 2.08 meter leaping) B.R.I.U. Kumara from Galle District will light up the Olympic Lamp in the opening ceremony scheduled to be held on December 19 at 3.30 pm.
The State Minister of Urban Development, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness Nalaka Godahewa, State Minister of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement Thenuka Vidanagamage, the Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports Anuradha Wijekoon, President/Director General of National Youth Services Council Damitha Wickramasinghe and the Secretary of Sri Lanka Youth Social Federation Dilshan Chathuranga Jayakuru will grace as guests at the opening ceremony while Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa will be the chief guest of the concluding ceremony on December 22 at 3.30 pm.
