The Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC) produced their best performance to beat the Petersons Sports Club 60-0 in their SLR Under-24 League Rugby Tournament match played at the Thurstan College Grounds in Colombo yesterday.
After having gone down to Science ‘Maroons’ in their opening fixture of the tournament last week, the OWSC came back strongly with a dominant performance to keep their hopes alive.
OWSC showed a great amount of improvement as they ran circles around their opponents’ defence and collected their points from five goals and five tries after having led 17-0 at half time.
OWSC, of course, started the game in a rather dejected manner after they heard the news that their teammate Dilina Fernando had passed away on his way to the game under tragic circumstances.
OWSC certainly dedicated the match to their late colleague and took an early lead with Mohamed Mirzan, Sakith Perera and Yohan Philip scoring a try each before half time. After the turnaround, OWSC really went on the rampage as they crossed the whitewash at regular intervals through Isuru Perera (2), Minhaj Mohamed, Johanne Ogbebar, Shan Sachindha and Kavindana Perera.
Fly half Ogbebar was successful in adding the extra points to five tries.
