
An 11‑year‑old boy from Maligawatte who was hospitalized after being rescued after being swept away while bathing at Galle Face sea in Colombo on Wednesday (10) has died.
The Police said that a 10‑year‑old child, also from Maligawatte, remains missing.
Six children from Maligawatte were swept away while bathing in the sea. Nearby civilians, police officers, and Navy personnel managed to rescue five of them.
Two were admitted to Colombo National Hospital and three to Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, after which one child was reported dead.
Search operations are continuing to locate the missing child, with police lifeguards and Navy diving teams deployed.
