One held in murder attempt

The Ahungalla Police arrested a person involved in a recent attempt to shoot and kill a person in Weheragedara, Ahungalla.

The shooting took place on August 24 and Police said the person who was arrested was the man who rode the motorcycle with the gunman as pillion rider.

This 42-year-old suspect is a resident of Eheliyagoda Nugahena Estate. He was arrested in Eheliyagoda. Based on the information revealed during the questioning of the suspect, a locally made firearm was also found hidden near the Ahungalla Bogahapitiya Amuna Bridge. Ammunition used for that weapon and seven grams and 400 milligrams of heroin too have been found.

It is said that this shooting was done on a contract given by an underworld criminal now staying in Dubai.
