One held in Pitipana youth’s shooting

The Negombo Division Crimes Investigation Unit has taken into custody on Monday (14), on suspicion of shooting and killing an individual near the Pitipana fish market in the

Dungalpitiya Police Division, Balasinghe Pedige Samantha alias Army Samantha, residing at Badalgama, Kehelella.

A 25-year-old named Dhanushka Anjana Umayanga Fernando, a resident of North Pitipana, Negombo, who had been engaged in the job of collecting money from vehicles coming to the fish auction, was killed in a shooting by an unidentified gunman on the morning of August 12 at the Pitipana fish market in Negombo.

The suspect has been handed over to the Dungalpitiya Police for further investigations and legal action. The suspect was due to be produced before the court yesterday (15).
