One killed, two injured in Warapitiya tree fall

A man was killed and two others were injured when a large mara tree fell near the Warapitiya Bandaranaike National School on the Mahiyangana main road in Kandy, causing damage to three vehicles and a shop.

Hospital sources say that the condition of one of the other two injured persons is serious. A woman is among the injured and an electrical wire has also been damaged due to the falling tree.

A van that was passing by at the time of the accident was severely damaged. A couple and their three-year-old child were traveling there and they were not harmed.According to the Police, a van, a three-wheeler and a motorcycle were damaged in the accident.

People in the area said that the tree which has fallen due to the strong wind caused by the rain is a huge one with a circumference of 15 feet.
