One Lankan hurt, two missing following Hamas strike on Israel

Authorities said that a Sri Lankan has been injured and two other Sri Lankan’s have gone missing after Hamas militants operating in the Gaza Strip launched an attack on Israel on Saturday.

The injured person it is learnt is an employee of a tourist hotel in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, General Manager Gamini Senarath Yapa told ‘Daily News’ that the Sri Lankan government is working together with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans working over there.

He said the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) hotline 1989 can be used by those seeking information regarding Sri Lankan’s employed in Israel.

He said at present, about 8,000 Sri Lankans are working in Israel and 90 percent of them are working as caregivers. A majority of them are females.

However, only a few are in the conflict affected southern region.

Also authorities are seeking information on the missing Sri Lankans and will inform the Red Cross if they are not located.

Meanwhile, the embassy in Israel has also urged the Sri Lankans staying in Israel to provide information via WhatsApp to 0094 – 716640560 if they have any problems.
