Online application process for new passports from today

The Immigration and Emigration Department will implement a new methodology for the issuance of passports to ease the process of issuing passports from today (19). With the new methodology applicants are now required to register in advance by logging on the Immigration and Emigration Department’s website www.immigration.gov.lk in order to apply for new passports.

After registering online, the process of issuing passports will be on priority basis i.e. a person who registers for a new passport early will get an opportunity to obtain the passport early. This new system will reduce congestion at the Immigration and Emigration Department offices drastically since there is no need to calling over at offices regularly as earlier.
