Only President can rebuild country, revive economy – SLPP MP

Gampaha District SLPP MP Milan Jayathilaka said yesterday that he will support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election upon the request of the entire people of this country.

He emphasised that he took that decision because of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the only leader who has recognized the pulse of the people on earth.

The MP said this while participating in the press conference held under the theme “ We Will Win Together” held at the President’s Election Media Center at Loris Road, Bambalapitiya.

“Currently, President Ranil Wickremesinghe can be seen as the only leader who has the ability to resolve the economic, political and social crises of this country and rebuild this country. As the group in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, we discussed that President Ranil Wickremesinghe should be nominated again as the Presidential candidate. But, several problems arose there. As young politicians, we thought about the country and decided to support Ranil Wickremesinghe in this election.

‘When this country was in a huge crisis, all the leaders ran away. But President Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted this challenge. He not only accepted the challenge but also restored this country in a short period of time. We expect from him in the future to create a job for youth , and appropriate income for them. We see him as a leader who can implement a programme for that.

Along with problems in Iran and Iraq, it also affects the economy of small countries like us. Most of our workers who provide foreign exchange to our country are in Middle Eastern countries. Most of the fuel is supplied to this country from these countries. If there is a problem again, we need a mature leader to lead the management in the right way. Only President Ranil Wickremesinghe has the ability to do that,”he said.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s constitution states that the country comes first. What former President Mahinda Rajapaksa always tells us is to work for the country first, second and third. We are doing this work from that place. I believe that all the people of this country will think about the country and make a decision.

“When leading a country, it is not enough for a leader to have only economic knowledge. He or she should have knowledge on political, social and even security facts. If political stability cannot be made, It doesn’t matter how much the economy and security are built. This is like three-wheels on a three-wheeler. If one wheel is missed, it can’t run. We appointed former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa thinking about the security of the country. Although he had military strength at that time, he could not handle the economy properly. His government fell. At that time, both the economy and politics of this country were in a state of confusion.

It was at such a time that President Ranil Wickremesinghe took charge of this country. Politically, we were very scattered. At that time there was terror in the country. Members of Parliament were killed on the road. After eliminating the politically confused situation, he has been able to form a majority group of members in the Parliament today. The economy has been brought to a certain level by giving the right plans to the economy. We believe that only he can manage it correctly.
