Over 20,000 suspects have been arrested and narcotic drugs worth over Rs.858 million have been seized during the special operation ‘Yukthiya’ conducted by the Sri Lanka Police and its Special Task Force during the last 14 days.
The narcotics that were seized included 11 kilograms and 600 grams of heroin, 8 kilograms and 378 grams of methamphetamine (‘Ice’), 297kg and 8 grams of cannabis, 72, 272 narcotic pills and 2,110,500 cannabis plants, 119 kilograms and 600 grams of mawa, 35 kilograms and 800 grams of ash, 01 kilograms and 70 grams of hashish, and 555 grams of kush.
In addition, the Illegal Assets and Properties Investigation Division of the police have confiscated assets worth Rs. 558.5 million belonging to notorious criminals and drug traffickers.
A total of 20, 797 suspects have been arrested during the operation, of which 1018 suspects are being further investigated based on detention orders
Also, 189 suspects have been investigated for illegal assets and 1298 drug addicts will be sent to rehabilitation centers, police said.
