Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa strongly condemned the decision taken by the COPE Committee to disallow media coverage of yesterday’s investigation into the controversial statement made by the Chairman of the CEB at the last COPE meeting and said that neither the COPE nor its Chairman has the power to censor such information to the public and the media and that the public and the media have a right to know.

Premadasa condemned the decision taken by the COPE Chairman to censor the controversial statement by the former Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board M. C. Ferdinando to the COPE recently, claiming it was due to national security concerns.

He said that concealment of such information reveals that the government led by the President has entered into a number of secret agreements with multinational corporations in the recent past.

He made this statement at a programme held at the Colombo New Town Hall yesterday (24) to solicit ideas and suggestions on a roadmap to build a practical program and the need for a joint program of trade unions and civil activists to save the country from the current catastrophe.
