Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunewardena yesterday said the Opposition Leader without merely criticising government efforts to repay the country’s debt should tell openly what plan does he have with regards to repaying the country’s debt.
The Minister charged that the Opposition Leader without any understanding of the real situation, has told the media that the government has created a bogeyman with regards to debt restructuring.
“If by some misfortune he becomes the leader of the country, is he capable of not paying any international debt?” the Minister questioned.
The Minister said Sri Lanka has reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund on debt restructuring and if the debt restructuring is completed by September, the Government will be able to resume the development activities that have been stopped.
He was speaking at an event in Bibile organized to handover new buses to the Sri Lanka Transport Board depots in Moneragala District received under the Indian Creditline.
