Opposition Leader wants legitimate Chairman for Finance Committee
In the absence of the proper Chairman for the Finance Committee, all the decisions and approvals granted by the Committee are legally and constitutionally invalid, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday.
Therefore, the Opposition Leader requested to appoint a legitimate Chairman to the Finance Committee first and then submit all relevant reports to Parliament.
The Opposition Leader said this while raising a question regarding the absence of a Chairman to the Finance Committee.
In the absence of a Chairman of the Finance Committee, the acting Chairman has been appointed by the government illegally and unconstitutionally. It is revealed that the report of the Finance Committee is to be presented by its member UNP MP Vajira Abeywardena, despite the fact that Chairman should be from the Opposition. In that case, how can the reports of the Committee on Finance be legally presented on the agenda?, he queried.
