Orphanage matron’s husband remanded over abuse of girls

Pelmadulla Acting Magistrate Chamath Suraweera yesterday (26) remanded the husband of the matron of a child orphanage, who was arrested by the Ratnapura  Children and Women’s Police Bureau for allegedly abusing 11 girls in the orphanage in Rakwana area, until March 8. Police said that the 60 year-old suspect is an employee of a fuel station in Rakwana area.

According to the information received by the Godakawela divisional secretary about this abuse incident, the official had informed the matter to Ratnapura DIG. This led to an investigation by the Ratnapura Children and Women Police Bureau.

According to the police, the warden of this orphanage which was run by a non-governmental organization, has also been removed after the incident was reported.
