“Our main objective of this ongoing SLC Invitational T 20 cricket tournament is to prepare top white ball players for upcoming Asia Cup T – 20 tournament and ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia, said Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) tournament Committee chairman Samantha Dodanwela at the press briefing with the four teams captains yesterday at the Cinnamon Lake Hotel.
All the top players have taking part this tournament and intensity level is very high and all teams are keen to perform well and keen tussle is expected in next matches.
As you all know the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament was postponed due to present economic crisis, the Selectors and National head coach have discussed with tournament committee and then organised this invitational T-20 league tournament. This always give opportunity to Selectors to give best combination for the two major events Asia Cup as well as T 20 World Cup.
“We have four teams Reds, Blues and Greens for this event while fourth team Greys consist of all the top players who have performed well during recently concluded Major clubs, National Super League tournaments and we have given opportunity to this players who have not in the major National squads and give them opportunity to come up with this event. We thank SLC President Shammi Silva and his team and the sponsors.
IPG Group, Skyexch, Daraz, Dafa News all together give their big hands to make the event a success.
The tournament Committee chairman Samantha Dodanwela further said we have more concern about wickets in this T 20 tournament. Especially we had same type of tournament last year before the South African and Indian series and youngsters who performed well at this tournaments got chance to represent National side.
The tournament Committee chairman also confirmed the postponed LPL is plan to held from next December 6 to 23 while venues are not confirmed yet.
Meanwhile Team Greens skipper Dasun Shanaka said this is golden opportunity to youngsters to showcase their talent. We really appreciate SLC to organise this type of tournament before the Asia Cup and T 20 World Cup. I want to see top batters and top
bowlers to pick National white ball squad and this tournament has paved the way to select the bests.
Team Reds skipper Kusal Mendis, Team Blues skipper Charith Asalanka,Team Grey’s skipper Ashan Priyanjan and SLC Head of National cricket operations Chintaka Edirimanne were also present at this press briefing.
