Over 1000 prisoners received presidential pardon

Under a special Presidential amnesty, 1,004 prisoners were released today.

According to the powers vested with the President under Article 34 of the Constitution, this special State Amnesty is granted to prisoners to coincide with Christmas. Approximately 45 prisoners were released from the Batticaloa prison under the special amnesty.
