Over 200 kgs of heroin seized from trawler

The Navy has seized a multi-day vessel with a large haul drugs, believed to be heroin in the international waters south of Sri Lanka yesterday. 

Six persons who were on the multi-day vessel have also been taken into custody by the Navy. The officers have found around 12 bags and it is believed that the bags contain more than 200 kilogrammes of heroin.

The street value of a kilo of heroin is around Rs.30 million and officials believe the value of the heroin stock will be around Rs.6000 million.

It is stated that this drug haul was seized as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau, the State Intelligence Service and the Navy. The multi-day vessel had set sail from the Kudawella fisheries port on March 20.

It is stated that the heroin cargo, which is said to have been brought from Pakistan, was taken by the people who went on this multi-day vessel in the international waters, south of Sri Lanka.

The vessel was nabbed by the Navy while bringing the heroin stock to the land.

The heroin haul and the multi-day vessel with the suspects are currently being brought to the shore, probably to Galle port, escorted by the Navy.
