The Ambalantota police yesterday (3) seized 25 kilos of heroin, worth over Rs.500 million, which had been taken to a house in Koggalle in Ambalantota and hidden in two sacks of paddy, saying that it was to be offered to the temple.
The owner of this house and the son of the house owner’s elder sister who came with these paddy sacks have been arrested by the police.
The police said that a person who came with the son of the elder sister of the woman who owns the house kept the paddy in the house. The paddy sacks in which heroin had been hidden have been brought to the house in a three-wheeler. A senior police officer said that according to the information received from the Ambalantota Police, the house was searched and the heroin was found in the paddy field.
The police suspect that the traffickers are hiding heroin brought in by boats through the sea routes and this may be one lot caught.
