Over 5,000 officers to arrest errant traders in New Year Season – CAA

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) will deploy about 3,200 investigators to nab the traders who sell outdated food items during the new year festive season and the errant traders who sell essential food items at high prices .

About 2,500 PHIs will also be deployed to nab hotel owners who serve unfit food items during the April new year festive season. Arresting errant traders will commence from April 1.

About 12,200 errant traders were arrested last year and sued for selling outdated and expired food items.

About 239 traders who sold eggs at higher prices were also arrested during last three months. More raids will be conducted to nab errant traders during the next six months, said Kurunegala District Senior Divisional Secretary R.M. Jayaratne.
